QuMind communities share how the closing of Pubs, Restaurants and Cafes are affecting the consumer.
The overwhelming view is that this is the right decision with 93% of consumers polling they would agree with this. In fact, 16% felt this should have been done earlier. Many of the comments in the forum discussing the impact of this on everyday lives have been heartened by the attempts by Pubs and restaurants to do local deliveries and seems to be a very popular move.
The trend towards delivering meals to homes has been growing steadily for the last 5 years, in particular amongst the young. However, it seems likely that Covid 19 will accelerate this and Pubs and restaurants will become the centre of a new local home delivery network across all age groups. Many consumers are showing support by still ordering takeaways, if offered. Appreciation is expressed for those local pubs that are cooking dishes and delivering them to the elderly in the community.
“I do feel sorry for small restaurants who are being left stranded with possibly dire consequences”
Less can be said about the media reporting with 73% of respondents polling that the media made them feel anxious. This feeling of anxiety is widespread across the age groups so there is clearly a need for the media to provide some light to alleviate this anxiety.
At the very least our local pubs and restaurants are bringing much needed cheer to a despondent nation. We will continue to bring regular updates on changing consumer sentiments and behaviour through our MindMover Connect community.
